We had been living with Anna and Thomas for a week, and we felt so good at their place, that the weariness which pushed us towards home evaporated. Although our friends worked a lot, they still found some time to go with us to the downtown.
And the town made a good place for holiday. The beaches and city parks were fabulous, neat, and surprisingly clean, as for Spain. The weather was not perfect for sunbathing, yet we could not complain- we had only a couple of cloudy days with a few showers.
Nonetheless, what we are the most deeply interested in are people. Dark complexion and black hair are most typical features of the inhabitants of Galicia, as well as an elegant and tasteful way of dressing. Most of them are accustomed to eating breakfast in one of the numerous local cafes, which usually offer good coffee. Except for McDonald’s and the like, western -cuisine influences are barely existent here, still, in spite of the abundance of fast-food restaurants, the Spanish still prefer their local Taperias.
The Spanish are definitely fast-drivers, yet, they do not lack good moto-manners. When we happened to stop in the middle of a narrow street the driver did not only refrain from sounding his horn, but was grateful for us making him a space to ride. We got the impression that the life here is calm, and the people enjoy it. They definitely live an outdoor lifestyle, feasting (even birthday) in local cafes. Also the pensioners don’t stay at homes, but spend time on beaches, parks, where they chat, sunbathe, play cards, or just observe the people.
Such a lifestyle seems really inspiring to us. We wish we were willing to go out so much when retired.

Not so far from the center of Vigo, there is a cute little restaurant we would eagerly recommend. The customers are mainly the local people, which means that it is cheap and with a good food and coffe. And it’s possible to learn how to make a real Spanish tortilla.
The address is here:
